Time to Advocate! New Congress Members!:

Wednesday, January 7, 2009
Yesterday, 54 representatives had their first session in to the 111th Congress of the United States of America. I know that in my district (52nd, California), Duncan Hunter is serving his first term in office, replacing his father by the same name. My first mission? Writing him a letter to encourage him to join the CF Caucus!

Want to help? First, find out what congressional district you are in (if you don't already know). You can do that by clicking HERE. I recommend typing in your full street address as those living in larger cities mind find themselves living in a split district, as I did.

You can click on this link to find out if your district has elected a new representative.

Finally, if your district has a new Representative, then write him/her a letter! The letters are very easy to write thanks to the CF Foundation. Click HERE to write your personalized letter. I recommend mailing it, but you have the option to either send by letter or via email. Once you're done, click print and it will save your draft to your computer, where you can print it out and mail it in. Remember to save a copy of your letter as a memento and for tracking purposes.

In a recent post, the issue of government funding was brought up. You may wonder why we should advocate in congress if cystic fibrosis isn't getting any funding. My answer is that congress votes on many things, not just funding for disease research. I want every congressman possible to be thinking cystic fibrosis when he or she votes on any health care, biomedical, or policy issue he or she sees on the House floor. Let's get as many of these new congressmen and congresswomen on the CF Caucus as we can!
