Letter or Email Campaign?

So which did you do? Letter or Email campaign, or both? Last year, Alicia and I did an email campaign…actually we did about three of them. I emailed all of the people I knew personally that she didn’t really know, she emailed everyone she knew but I didn’t really know, and then we sent out one email for our collective friends. We chose not to do a letter campaign because we needed to keep costs low and we had heard about the success of using the electronic means over the traditional.

This year, however, I need to write a few letters. There were some huge donations last year (compared to our average donation) that honestly, in my mind, require a letter to let the donor know how much we valued the donation last year and how much we would value it again this year. I think this is good donor-relations and it makes sense to me.

But what about you more experienced fundraisers out there? Do you use a mixed email/letter campaign or one or the other exclusively?

I did both, and have always done both for the last 4 years. I have a lot of success via the email campaign, since donors can click directly to our Great Strides webpage. However, I have a lot of success with an actual letter too. And like you mentioned, in the letter (email one too), I always put a few things in there about the previous year's walk.
